What to Pack Venezuela

Most people travelling to Venezuela will have been to a few intrepid destinations before this. Nonetheless, here is advice on what to pack when travelling to the Bolivarian Republic, or Venezuela, in South America.

Clothing

  • Lightweight, breathable, quick-drying clothes suited for tropical heat and humidity; think technical fabrics rather than cotton for active travel.

  • Long-sleeved shirts and lightweight trousers to protect against mosquitoes and sun, especially critical for jungle excursions and the Orinoco Delta.

  • Durable hiking shoes or boots built for diverse terrain – essential if hiking Angel Falls, exploring tepuis like Mount Roraima, or trekking Canaima National Park.

  • A reliable waterproof rain jacket or poncho – rainfall can be sudden and significant in rainforest and highland regions.

  • Sun protection gear: a wide-brimmed hat and high-quality UV sunglasses.

Technical Gear and Accessories

  • Plug adapters for Venezuelan outlets (Type A/B, 120V, 60Hz).

  • Waterproof bags or dry sacks to protect electronics, documents, and supplies during jungle walks, boat rides, or spray from waterfalls.

  • Binoculars and cameras with protective casing for wildlife watching and landscape photography.

Additional Essentials

  • US Dollars + money belt (or other device for cash safekeeping): you will need almost all, if not all, of your spending money and expenses in US Dollars. Crime rates are high in Venezuela, and as such, have somewhere safe to keep your cash and belongings.

  • Lightweight backpack or daypack for daily excursions to tepuis or waterfalls.

  • Quick-dry towel and swimwear for river or waterfall swims, particularly around Angel Falls and Canaima.

  • Spanish phrasebook or offline translation app.
