If ever there was an underrated destination in the world, it would probably be Libya. The massive, but sparsely populated, North African country of Libya, has a history dating back more than 10,000 years! After millenia of empires and conquest, of European, African and Middle Eastern influences, Libya has become one of the most unique and fascinating countries in Africa.
A troubled modern history is what most people know Libya for and we certainly don't ignore the choas, conflict and destruction that Libya has experienced, especially in recent years. We'll learn about the struggle every day Libyans face.
Since the NATO-backed revolution in 2011 and the toppling of dictator Muamar Gaddafi, Libya has been in a state of civil war. Although parts of the country remain unstable, the war seems to have mostly finished, and Libya is getting ready to open up to the world. The country still remains split between east and west, however progress is being made every day towards a more stable Libya.
This is your chance now to see some of the world’s best preserved ancient Roman sites such as Leptis Magna and Sabratah, coupled with striking desert landscapes and amazing Italian colonial architecture, without any other tourists around!
