Can Americans Travel to Syria?

Years ago the idea of Americans travelling to Syria was merely a dream, and then by some miracle visas just started to be issued around April of 2023! We have since then taken many US citizens on tour to Syria in both group tours and on private trips. So, simply put, yes! Americans can travel to Syria.

Can Americans travel in 2025?

Obviously, since 2023 a lot has changed in Syria (a lot being a massive understatement here). So, with the new transitional government is it still possible? Again, yes! It is definitely possible and there are no restrictions or anything that makes it more difficult than other nationalities for US citizens to travel to Syria.

Is it safe for Americans to travel to Syria?

Absolutely, Syria is safe for all tourists including US citizens. Being an American in Syria does not make you more of a target. Syrian people are among the friendliest in the world, and despite the current geopolitical climate, Syrians are more aware than others that governments don’t represent their people. When Syrians see Americans traveling in their country they understand that you are travelling to somewhere everyone says is dangerous and so they will go out of their way to put on a good impression and make you feel welcome.

As an example, when we took a large group of Americans in 2023, people found out our group was mainly from the US and would shout things at us like “YOU ARE WELCOME IN SYRIA”. In no way did anyone ever feel unwelcome or unsafe and this attitude absolutely continues in 2025.

Is the visa process more difficult for Americans?

No. The visa process currently is the same for everyone. The current process is a visa on arrival system that is new. For the time being visa fees are only charged for arrivals to Damascus International Airport and are not yet applicable at either the Lebanese or Jordanian border.

How can I go to Syria as a US citizen?
