Lomé, and Togo in general, is not known for it’s food. Not only is there not much in the way of interesting and unique Togolese cuisine, but unlike many other African countries, there is also little in the way of dining culture.
Another problem one faces when travelling to Togo is the price. Due to little in the way of local production, most food is imported, meaning it’s quite expensive.
Lomé’s food scene might not be vast, but that doesn’t mean you need to starve. For those on a tighter budget, this list will help you find a filling hearty meal like a Lome local.
1) Dom’s Restaurant
Address / Location:
2 A Boulevard Jean-Paul 2 (near the T-Oil station Nukafu toward Collège Saint Joseph), Lomé, Togo.
Cuisine:
Fusion of West African + Asian flavours — especially fried rice dishes with chicken, fish, shredded beef.
Review:
Dom’s Restaurant earns praise as something of a “hidden gem” in Lomé’s dining scene. A unique mix of local and international flavours which is quite unusual for Togo. Dom’s is known for their fried-rice dishes, friendly staff, relaxed interior and good value. It’s smaller and more modest than many restaurants, but that adds to its charm. If you’re into something a little different — fusion style, tasty and casual — Dom’s is highly recommended.
2) Chilliloco
Address / Location:
36 Boulevard de la Paix (Av. de la Paix), Lomé 10213, Togo – near the airport zone, handy if you’re arriving or departing.
Cuisine:
Fast-food / pizza / fried chicken / comfort food.
Chilliloco is a solid go-to for comfort food in Lomé — fried chicken, crispy fries, pizzas and a lively, casual atmosphere. Many visitors appreciate its reliability and value for money. On the flip side, it can get busy, waits may be longer than expected. If you need something familiar and quick, this fits the bill; but if you’re hunting for fine dining or local gastronomy, there are better choices.
3) TBB – The Best Burger
Address / Location:
315 Rue de l’OCAM, Lomé, Togo.
Cuisine:
Gourmet-style burgers, fries, milkshakes — American-style casual dining.
For burger lovers in Lomé, TBB stakes a strong claim. Juicy patties, soft buns, good fries and a friendly vibe. The space is modest, and peak times may bring a short wait, but the food largely delivers. This is your “burger night” spot in the capital — no frills, just good burgers done well. The biggest downfall is that the spartan dining area is obnoxiously loud even with few diners.
4) Ets Akif
Address / Location:
4456 Bd du 13 Janvier, Lomé, Togo
Cuisine:
Rotisserie chicken, burgers, snacks.
Review:
Ets Akif positions itself somewhere between fast-food and sit-down dining. A comfortable, clean environment. Service can be extremely slow, and if they happen to run out of what you ordered, don’t expect to be told until everyone else has received their food. If you’ve got time and want a comfortable, mid-priced meal with variety, Ets Akif works nicely — but avoid it if you’re on a tight lunch schedule.
5) Nico’s
Address / Location:
944 Avenue du 24 Janvier, Lomé, Togo.
Cuisine:
Pizza, paninis, roasted chicken, sandwiches.
Review:
Nico’s offers a nice alternative when you’re craving something other than grilled fish or local fare. The service is somewhat slow, and menu variety is less extensive than previously mentioned restaurants. If you or your group wants pizza in Lomé, Nico’s is a safe pick.
6) Maquis Chez Brovi
Address / Location:
29 Avenue Nicolas Grunitzky, Lomé, Togo.
Cuisine:
Local maquis/grill style – choose your fish, grilled fresh; chicken, local specialties.
Review:
For grilled fish aficionados, Maquis Chez Brovi rates very highly. You pick your fish, it gets grilled, you enjoy a lively local environment. Maquis Chez Brovi are known for freshness and backyard-style atmosphere. On the down side, service can slow when the place is packed, and if you’re in a hurry this might be less ideal. But for a proper local fish experience, this is a strong contender.
7) Chez Oumy
Address / Location:
Route Pavée facing Cité Millenium (opp. Swiss Consulate), Lomé, Togo. Phone +228 70 55 11 11.
Cuisine:
North African/Maghrebi-style & African home cooking — couscous, tajines, brochettes, fresh salads, mint tea.
Review:
Chez Oumy stands out for its warm hospitality, homely ambience and well-prepared food. Many reviews highlight the owner’s friendly welcome, home-cooked style dishes and the peaceful decor. It’s ideal for a relaxed meal where you feel at home. If you want fancy, this may be less flashy — but for warmth, flavour and comfort, Chez Oumy shines.
8) New Robinson Plage – Restaurant
Address / Location:
Zone Portuaire (Route d’Aného), Lomé, Togo.
Cuisine:
International / Seafood & Grill and Togolese
Review:
This review isn’t a suggestion but rather a warning. While the location by the sea sounds idyllic and the food isn’t bad, in fact some of the offering is downright good. This is where it ends, the French owners will stand and stare at you while you eat. They will make you feel uncomfortable as they yell at lowly paid locals. You can feel the tension when you eat here and it’s clear many of the staff are uneasy. Don’t even think about having a bottle of water on you, they will want to execute you.
