The Kyrgyzstan authorities have finally announced the dates for the 6

World Nomad Games. The 2026 World Nomad Games will run from August 31
st
to September 6
th
2026, as announced by the event’s organizing committee. This vibrant celebration of nomadic culture and traditional sports will bring together participants from over 89 countries, and spectators from many more, showcasing Kyrgyzstan’s rich heritage as well as world nomadic culture in general.
The Games will kick off with an official opening ceremony in the capital city, Bishkek, on August 31 st . The main program, including competitions and the closing ceremony on September 6 th , will take place on the picturesque shores of Issyk Kol, a stunning location that is expected to captivate attendees with its natural beauty. Most of the events will be held in and around the town of Cholpon Ata, which is on the northern shore of Issyk Kol.
The World Nomad Games are a celebration of the traditional sports and cultural practices of nomadic peoples, particularly those of Central Asia. Featuring ethnic sports rooted in centuries-old traditions, the event provides a platform for showcasing skills such as archery, wrestling, and horse-based competitions, which reflect the nomadic way of life. These games not only promote physical prowess but also foster a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage of nomadic communities.

This is not the first time that the World Nomad Games have been held in Kyrgyzstan. Kyrgyzstan hosted the first 3 editions of the event, before it moved to Turkey, then Kazakhstan, and is now returning to its spiritual home.
One piece of controversy already shrouding the 6

edition of the World Nomad Games is the choice of Opening Ceremony venue. The Opening Ceremony of the 6
th
Nomad Games is planned to take place in the capital, Bishkek, while all over events are held almost 300km away at Issyk Kol. This will no doubt create a headache on day 1 of the event when huge numbers of spectators, participants and officials are required to make the journey from Bishkek all at similar times.
As Kyrgyzstan prepares to welcome the world, the 6 th World Nomad Games are poised to be the biggest edition of the event so far, celebrating the resilience and vibrancy of nomadic cultures while fostering global connections.
