Starting from the 1 st of January 2026, Americans can pack their bags and jet off to Uzbekistan without the headache of sorting a visa. Yes, you read that right, no visa needed! This fabulous news means U.S. tourists can stroll into Uzbekistan and soak up its rich history, stunning Soviet era architecture, and vibrant culture hassle-free for up to 30 days. If you’ve ever dreamed of wandering through ancient Silk Road cities or sampling the national dish of plov, now’s your golden ticket to make it happen with none of the usual paperwork fuss.
What is the new rule?
In a landmark move aimed at liberalising its entry regulations and boosting tourism, Uzbekistan announced by presidential decree that, starting from the 1 st of January 2026, citizens of the United States will be able to enter Uzbekistan without needing a visa. This new visa-free regime allows U.S. citizens to stay in Uzbekistan for up to 30 days from the date of entry without requiring a prior visa. If the US citizen then proceeds to leave Uzbekistan, they will be able to re-enter with the 30 days beginning from the start again.
What was the system before?
Before this fantastic change, most American travellers had to wrestle with the eVisa system online, which, while convenient compared to embassy visits, still meant clicking through forms and waiting anxiously for approval. Until now, only those over 55 or under 16 were able to enter Uzbekistan visa-free, with those between 16 and 55 requiring a visa in advance.
Why has this change taken place?
It’s all part of a grand plan to turn the country into a tourist hotspot – and who can blame them? Between the endless mesmerising deserts, vibrant bazaars, and cosmopolitan cities, Uzbekistan offers a feast for the senses that travellers won’t forget in a hurry. From Timurid madrasahs that look like they popped out of a fairy tale to lively markets bursting with silk and spices, there’s every reason to add Uzbekistan to your travel bucket list. And with this visa hassle gone, it’s now easier than ever to go.
Uzbekistan’s visa policy has been increasingly welcoming in recent years. Besides the planned US announcement, citizens of several other countries already enjoy visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to Uzbekistan. Many regional neighbours, former Soviet states, and countries that have strong diplomatic or economic ties with Uzbekistan qualify for simplified entry without prior visa arrangements. This policy not only supports tourism but encourages business, cultural exchange, and educational visits.
