Arkadag monument Ashgabat, Turkmenistan Money in Turkmenistan is about to get a shake up as the country introduces a new bank note, the 200 Manat note. The note has been released to coincide with the 30 th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s declaration of neutrality.

Many bank note collectors and Turkmenistan enthusiasts will be eager to see and collect the new note, which features the Arkadag monument on its obverse, and the City Administration building of the city of Arkadag on the reverse.

The Arkadag monument is one of the main sights of Ashgabat. It features the Second President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, and father of the current President, riding a golden horse, atop a marble wave. Standing in the middle of a round-about next to the Ashgabat Stadium, it’s a must see for any tourists visiting Turkmenistan.

The City Administration building is the pride of the new city of Arkadag, which is 30km west of the capital of Ashgabat. The new city of Arkadag is the brainchild of the Second President and is probably best known for its dominating football team, which managed to go an entire season without being defeated, as well as its promotion to the AFC Champions league. The city has been officially opened and is slowly receiving new inhabitants.

The new 200 Manat note is made from polymer, a type of plastic that many other countries around the world, including Australia, the UK, Thailand, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Mexico and Russia, use for their respective currencies.

Currently Turkmenistan has 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 Manat notes in normal circulation. In conjunction with the release of the new 200 Manat note, the Central Bank of Turkmenistan is also reissuing the 1, 5 and 10 Manat notes in polymer.

The official rate for the Turkmenistan manat is 3.5 manat to 1USD.
