TOUR OVERVIEW
This is a two-day extension that can be done at the start or end of any Afghanistan tour. It begins and ends in Kabul, so it is easily accessible, and is perfect for those who want to see one of the most extreme parts of the country.
Kandahar is the second largest city in Afghanistan and was formerly the Taliban capital (the first time they were in control). Until the Taliban takeover in 2021, Kandahar was one of the most dangerous places to be in Afghanistan. Kidnappings were extremely common and the few foreigners who went there had to go in and out as quickly as possible. However, now that the Taliban is in control, Kandahar is just as safe to visit as anywhere else in Afghanistan. That being said, it is the most conservative part of an already extremely conservative nation, and you will notice that things feel very different in this part of the country.
We have designed this itinerary as a two-day trip, flying between Kandahar and Kabul. However, it is also possible to drive one way, and those wishing to see even more of Afghanistan should check out our three-day
Kandahar and Ghazni Extension
