Togo has moved almost all of its entry formalities online through a single government platform, and that includes the visa. If you're heading to Lomé or using Togo as a stopover in West Africa, here's our no frills guide to getting your Togo e-Visa sorted before you fly.
For our other West African destinations, check out our guides on getting visas for Nigeria , Cameroon and other African destinations.
And once you land, our guide to eating well in Lomé on a budget is worth bookmarking too.
Which website to use?
The official platform is Togo Voyage (voyage.gouv.tg) , run by the Togolese government. It handles your visa application and doubles as an all-in-one immigration portal, covering the arrival and departure formalities every traveller needs to complete, visa or not. As always, use the official .gouv.tg site rather than a third-party site charging a mark-up.
Do I actually need a visa?
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of ECOWAS member states (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone) don't need a visa. Most other nationalities, including passport holders from the US, UK, EU, Australia and Canada, do. The site has a free "Visa Assistant" tool that tells you in a couple of clicks whether you need one and what it'll cost.
Important: even if you're visa-exempt, you still have to register your trip on the Togo Voyage platform and print the confirmation before you fly (more on that below).
What documents do I need?
For a standard tourist visa, you'll need to upload:
- A completed online application form.
- A scanned copy of the first 3 pages of your passport (valid at least 3 months beyond your visa's expiry).
- One recent passport-style photo.
- Proof of your flight booking (required if arriving by air).
Travel insurance, a hotel booking or accommodation letter, an invitation letter and proof of funds are all listed as optional/recommended rather than mandatory, but it's worth having them ready in case you're asked.
How much does it cost?
Price depends on how long you're staying and whether you want single or multiple entry:
- 1–15 days, single entry: 25,000 CFA (roughly $40 USD).
- 1–15 days, multiple entry: 35,000 CFA.
- 16–30 days, multiple entry: 45,000 CFA.
- 31–90 days, multiple entry: 65,000 CFA.
Payment is made online through the portal by card (Visa/Mastercard) or West African mobile money (Flooz or TMoney).
How long does it take?
Standard processing takes up to 5 business days, and the government recommends applying at least 6 business days before you travel. If your trip is coming up faster than that, the platform offers an "Arrivée Express" option for late applications — but as always, we'd never recommend leaving a visa to the last minute if you can help it.
What's this "attestation d'inscription" I keep seeing?
This is the part that catches people out. Every traveller flying to or from Togo — visa holder or not — has to complete an immigration registration on the Togo Voyage platform and print the confirmation slip (the "attestation d'inscription") before boarding. Airlines check for it at check-in, and you won't be allowed to fly without it. If you do need a visa, your approval and this registration slip are handled through the same account, so it's one process rather than two separate ones.
Anything else to prepare?
Togo requires proof of yellow fever vaccination (your yellow card) for entry, so make sure yours is up to date and packed with your travel documents. COVID-19 test results or vaccination proof are no longer required to enter or leave Togo, though it's worth checking what your next destination expects.
How long will the visa be valid for?
Validity matches the duration you apply for, up to a maximum of 90 days for a multiple-entry tourist visa. Make sure the length you select actually covers your full trip, including any side trips out of and back into Togo if you're travelling overland.
Do we offer Togo tours?
Not as a standalone tour at the moment, but Togo pairs naturally with our Benin tours , and we cover plenty of other West African destinations too — take a look at our Africa tours page for what's currently running.
