TOUR OVERVIEW
This is one of these tours that has us really excited. We've been dreaming of doing a 7 Stans tour for years, and finally now we're doing it. With two of the least crossed land borders in the world, an epic route winding its way through modern cities, Soviet remnants, breath-taking scenery, picturesque villages, religious and cultural sites that very few in the world have set eyes on, it's going to be quite the adventure.
It's hard to list highlights of this tour, as there are going to be so many. For some it will be the historical sites of Silk Road Uzbekistan, such as the Registan and the old town of Bukhara. For some it will be experiencing the Soviet side of Central Asia with Khoja Obi Garm sanatorium and the Parkent Solar Furnace. For others it will be the sheer beauty of Bamyan, the Fann Mountains, and rural Kyrgyzstan. For some people it will be the bizarre world of Turkmenistan, with everything that Ashgabat brings, and of course the Gates of Hell. And for many it will be a mixture of those things, plus umpteen others.
The route starts in Almaty, Kazakhstan's former capital, and the most modern and developed city int he region. From here we'll make our way through Kyrgyzstan, to Uzbekistan, then Tajikistan, back to Uzbekistan, and onto Turkmenistan. From Turkmenistan we'll cross the land border into Afghanistan, something that very very few foreigners have ever done, and until recently wasn't possible to do. The route through Afghanistan covers several places that are pretty uncomonnon to visit, such as the Minaret of Jam, though we will also be passing favourites such as Bamyan and Kabul as well. And then for the second very uncommon border crossing - the notorious Khyber Pass, which also has a fraught history and has been largely unpassable in recent years. And we could just do the obvious thing and finish up in Islamabad, but we love the idea of exploring Pakistan more extensively, so have designed the route to go all the way down to Karachi, for something a bit different.

This tour can be done as a whole of course, but we've also split it up into sections (see the below table) for anyone who'd like to do just a part of this itinerary.
You're also welcome to join for any section of this tour - you can arrive and depart at any point en route. For example, start in Osh and finish in Herat. Begin in Bukhara and leave us in Peshawar. Dushanbe to Ashgabat. Or whatever floats your boat.
