Itinerary
Day 1Sun Jun 6
Douala
  • Famous roundabout, Douala, Cameroon We like to have a full day of activities and sight-seeing at the start of our tours because we know that a lot of travellers have limited time and/or budget, and as such as don't include an "arrival day". However, if you want/need to arrive before Day 1 of the tour we can of course help arrange extra accommodation and airport transfers.

  • Today we’re going to dive headfirst into the energetic chaos of Douala! Douala is the economic heartbeat of Cameroon and the country's largest city.

  • Your adventure begins with a sightseeing tour that will awaken all your senses. Soak in the bustling markets, the vibrant sounds of Makossa music, and the infectious energy of Cameroon's economic capital. This is your introduction to a country that never sleeps.

  • We’ll visit the Doual’art Museum, a contemporary art space that showcases the best of Cameroonian and African urban art.

  • Next we'll visit the Maritime Museum before making our way to the lively Youpwe Fish Market, where the waterfront buzzes with fishermen, traders and the incredible smells of freshly grilled seafood. Part of the fun in the market here is selecting our own fresh seafood and then taking it upstairs to be grilled. Prices are very cheap and the quality is amazing!

  • We'll end the evening with dinner at one of Douala's famous street BBQ spots. Today will have been the perfect introduction to Cameroonian cuisine.

  • Overnight in Douala.

Day 2Mon Jun 7
Douala, train to Yaounde
  • Train Douala to Yaounde, Cameroon An early morning awaits us as we catch the express train to Yaounde. Not only is the train station, in all its tired art deco glory, a place worth visiting, but as far as we're concerned this train is an integral part of any Cameroonian experience. Reunification Monument, Yaounde, Cameroon Departing each morning at 6:30am, you can watch your clock at 6:29, and literally as it ticks over, the train will depart. The six-hour journey is one of the most punctual and scenic train rides in Central Africa, passing through lush rainforest and rolling hills.
  • Arriving in Yaounde at lunch time, we'll check into our hotel and then go and see the city.
  • Yaounde is the capital of Cameroon, and is a quiet and sleepy town compared with Douala. However, don’t let this fool you as there is still plenty to see.
  • We'll start by heading to one of the local markets to have some lunch at the most famous street food shop in Yaoundé called 50/50. Here there are piles of freshly grilled meat skewers that each cost 50 CFA (less than 0.10 USD).
  • After a bite to eat, we'll head to the National Museum, housed in the now very tired former presidential palace, followed by the striking Reunification Monument. We'll then visit the Ethnographic Museum, which offers an excellent overview of Cameroon's remarkable cultural diversity, as well as the gaudy "I love my country" monument.
  • Overnight in Yaounde.

Day 3Tue Jun 8
Yaounde, Foumban, C3 Resort
  • Foumbam Museum, Snake and spider building, view from inside one of the snake's mouths, Cameroon Buckle up for a spectacular full-day drive through Cameroon's breathtaking Western Highlands, the heartland of the Bamileke people. Watch as the urban sprawl melts away into lush greenery, forested hills, towering mountains, traditional villages and terraced farmland.

  • We’ll stop for a delicious local lunch or BBQ pork at a very local restaurant along the way before arriving in Foumban, the spiritual and artistic capital of the Bamoun people. Foumban museum, double headed snake and spider building, Foumban, Cameroon We'll start with the absolutely epic, indescribable, and totally unique Foumban Museum - a palace complex unlike anything else you've ever seen. It's a building literally in the shape of a giant two-headed snake, mouths open and fangs extended, with a huge spider sitting on top of it, and a twin cowbell flanking the central entrance, all of which represents the royal authority of the Bamileke king. The two open mouths are obviously entrances and exits too. And it doesn't get any less weird and cool once you're inside. And yes, of course you can go right up into the spider. Wax statues being made in Foumbam, Cameroon

  • We'll then take a walk around the town of Foumban. We'll wind our way through the artisan alleyways of the village where all the local crafts are made - metal, clay, beading and woodwork, statues, masks, trinkets, and all sorts of cool stuff.
  • From here we'll stroll around the central market, before heading off and making our way to our accommodation for the evening.
  • In the mid afternoon we’ll arrive at our peaceful C3 resort nestled in nature, your perfect retreat after a day of exploration. We'll have time to enjoy our surroundings, go for a little walk if you want to, use the pool and gym, or simply just sit and chill with a local beer and take it all in.

Day 4Wed Jun 9
C3 Resort, Kack Festival, Batoufam
  • Batoufam Chiefdom Cheferie, Kack Festival, Lineup of chiefs and officials, Cameroon This morning we can have a little bit of a later start start, before we head further into the Cameroonian highlands.
  • Along the way we will hit up another famous roadside BBQ stop which specialises in pork. This roadside stop is very popular among locals and is another chance to try amazing Cameroonian cuisine.
  • We’ll arrive in Batoufam, one of the most traditional remaining Chiefdoms left in Cameroon. Here, we will be granted a special visit to the Batoufam Royal Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to learn about the rich history and traditions of the Bamileke people before our overnight stay. Kack Festival, Batoufam Chiefdom Cheferie, Cameroon No description can do this place justice though - you've just got to see it to understand what it's all about.
  • And this will most likely be the highlight of the trip, as not only is the place so cool and unique anyway, but we've also timed this tour so that it coincides with their Kack Festival. Batoufam Chiefdom Cheferie, Kack Festival, Cameroon Now this really is impossible to describe! Various chiefs and celebrities from nearby Chiefdoms will be in attendance, and all the residents of Batoufam will be out in their full outfits. It's super casual and they're very happy for us to move around and take whatever photos we like, get involved if we want to, or equally stand at the sidelines if that's what we prefer. There are parades of their costumes, offerings made, performances of songs and dances. There's a lot of food and a lot of drink, and just generally an amazing atmosphere.
  • And we'll continue the fun by also spending the night here, in a real life 21st Century African Chiefdom. The accommodation itself is pretty basic, but so worth it for the experience!

Day 5Thu Jun 10
Batoufam, Ekom-Nkam Falls, Limbe
  • Ekom-Nkam Falls, Tarzan Waterfall, Litterol Region, Cameroon We’ll leave Batoufam this morning behind as we head back towards the coast, with several memorable stops along the way.

  • Our first stop is the famous Ekom-Nkam Falls in the Litterol Region of Cameroon. Ekom-Nkam Falls is a spectacular waterfall that cascades through dense jungle and was famously used as a filming location for Tarzan, earning it the local nickname of the Tarzan Waterfalls. There is a short walk to the first viewing platform, with a longer trail available for those who want to get closer to the falls.

  • Grilled fish, Lome beachfront, Cameroon We arrive in Limbe in the late afternoon, and after checking into our hotel we can walk down to the beach where there are many stalls grilling freshly caught seafood. The area is filled with local performers such as singers and even magicians to entertain you while stretching our legs on the famous black sand beaches, formed by lava flows from nearby Mount Cameroon.

  • Overnight in Limbe.

Day 6Fri Jun 11
Limbe, Douala
  • Limbe Botanical Gardens, Cameroon Before our return to Douala, we’ll visit the Limbe Wildlife Centre, a renowned sanctuary for rescued primates like gorillas and chimpanzees, set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Cameroon. It is a sobering and inspiring place — a chance to see these extraordinary animals up close while learning about conservation efforts in the region.

  • We will then visit the amazing Limbe Botanical Gardens which showcases some of the most stunning flora of the country with huge trees draped in creeper vines. Inside the gardens is also a Commonwealth War Graves site. Cameroon joined the Commonwealth in 1995 making it the first majority Francophone nation to do so. We don't say it lightly, but it's a pretty impressive botanical gardens.

  • We’ll then enjoy one last scenic drive along the coast, drinking in the final views of Cameroon's stunning diversity before arriving back in Douala.

  • The evening is free to explore the city at your own pace, or join the group for a final dinner at a popular local spot known for its BBQ meats, cheap cold Cameroonian beer and great atmosphere.

  • Overnight in Douala.
