TOUR OVERVIEW
Two of Africa’s most intriguing and least-visited destinations come together in one seamless summer adventure. This combo tour pairs Cameroon’s vibrant cultural heartlands and the unforgettable Kack Festival with an immersive exploration of Equatorial Guinea — one of the continent’s most elusive countries.
In Cameroon we travel from the energetic port city of Douala through Yaoundé and into the western highlands. The centrepiece is the Kack Festival in the living chiefdom of Batoufam, a colourful, chaotic and utterly unique celebration of Bamileke tradition that is almost impossible to describe until you experience it. Along the way we visit the extraordinary Foumban Museum (a building shaped like a spider perched on a double-headed snake), sample legendary Cameroonian roadside BBQ, walk black-sand beaches under Mount Cameroon in Limbe, and soak up the everyday energy of markets, craft alleys and highland villages.
From there we cross into Equatorial Guinea for a full circuit of both Bioko Island and the mainland. Malabo, the island capital, offers a mix of Spanish colonial architecture, African street life and dramatic volcanic scenery. We explore black- and white-sand beaches, biodiversity centres and partially abandoned coastal towns before heading to the mainland and the surreal, largely empty planned capital of Ciudad de la Paz. The itinerary covers jungles, beaches, quiet towns and the distinctive atmosphere of a country that still sees very few foreign visitors.
This is classic Saiga territory: two neighbouring nations that remain firmly off the mainstream radar, combined into a single journey timed for the dry season and the standout cultural event of the Cameroonian highlands. Expect genuine encounters, striking contrasts, excellent local food, and the rare chance to experience both the Kack Festival and one of Africa’s most closed-off countries in the same trip.
