We'll start our tour today by exploring Venezuela’s vibrant capital, Caracas.

Here we will visit the mausoleum of Hugo Chavez and the 23 de Enero neighbourhood, famous for being the heartland of Venezuela’s independence movement and for its modernist buildings.

Afterwards we will venture into the San Augostin Barrio, which is famous for its street art. We may even have a chance to sample some local Venezuelan arepas on the way!

Overnight in Caracas.

Today we will have a slow, relaxing morning, with some free time to go and get lunch before heading to the airport for our evening flight to Canaima, our first stop in Canaima National Park.

We'll explore the Canaima Lagoon, and will get our first views of Auyan Tepui, the mountain from which Angel Falls falls.

Today we will embark on a half-day hike to the base of Angel Falls.

Once we arrive we can reward ourselves with a swim at the base, and we'll spend some time here taking in the breath-taking sight that is the world's highest uninterrupted waterfall at 979 meters.

Afterwards, we will head onto a remote village where we will meet some of the region’s indigenous peoples.

Tonight, we will stay in a village in hammocks.

In the morning, we will take another boat trip back to Cainama, past the spectacular Hacha Falls.

When we arrive at the Cainama Lagoon we will also have the opportunity to go for another refreshing dip.

Over in this area we will visit another epic waterfall - the thunderous Shapo Falls, which are deafening to be near and will also most certainly get you soaked!

In the afternoon, we will check into a local hotel in the town of Cainama. We will then have the rest of the day to explore the town.

We'll wake up in Merida, known as the capital of the Venezuelan Andes, and spend the whole day exploring.

When in Merida we have the option to take the world’s highest and second longest cable car which will give us amazing views of the Andes. You will want to bring a jacket for this part, as we will be reaching an altitude of over 4,500m above sea level!

This morning we'll begin our drive through the Maracaibo lowlands, passing farmland and ranches, before taking a 5km boat ride through the flooded forests of Cienagas de Juan Manuel where we will have a chance to spot all sorts of different wildlife.

Once we arrive we will transfer to a small village on the shores of Lake Maracaibo.

Arriving in Ologa on the lake, this is the perfect place for us to see the Catatumbo lightning effect. It is known for having the highest frequency of lightning strikes in the world - up to 280 per hour in a near-constant storm! It's sure to be a very unique and exciting evening.

We will spend the night in hammocks in a traditional village built on stilts, where we'll spend the evening watching the lightning over the lake.
