TOUR OVERVIEW

This tour packs the best of the north and the south into one complete Algeria tour. We'll start in the capital of Algiers, where we'll wander through the beautiful Ottoman and French inspired streets. The highlights will be the winding alleyways of the Kasbah, the massive minaret at the new Djamaa el Djazaïr Mosque (the tallest minaret in the world currently), the stunning French and English landscaping at the Botanical Gardens, and some very tasty Algerian dishes.

We'll then fly to one of the most picturesque cities you'll have ever been to - Constantine. We'll walk over and under the city's famous hanging bridges and take in some stunning cliffside views. From there, we'll drive to the massive UNESCO World Heritage site of Timgad which is an incredible complex of well-preserved Roman ruins. Our adventure will then continue south to Djanet and Tassili n'Ajjer National Park. We will visit breathtaking rock formations, some of the oldest and most impressive prehistoric rock art you'll ever see, and the incredible rolling red and orange sand sea of the Essendilene sand dunes.

Heading back north, we'll walk through the ancient Roman ruins of Tipaza and eat at one of our favourite seafood restaurants in the entire world. Tipaza is unique in that it is as much a local park as it is a UNESCO historical site. Where else can you see people picnicking and casually leaning against 2000 year old columns? Our tour will end back in Algiers for one last amazing meal before we say our goodbyes.

Algiers
  • Today we will explore the vibrant Algerian capital of Algiers. Martyrs' Memorial, Algiers, Algeria
  • We'll begin the day with a walk through the botanical gardens of Algiers (which is surprisingly large). This is the site of the filming of the original 1923 Tarzan movie. The garden is nearly 200 years old, and was originally established as a research garden by the French occupation.
  • Next, we’ll take a gondola ride up to visit the amazing architecture of the Martyrs' Memorial, which is one of the most famous symbols of Algeria. The monument was opened in 1982, celebrating 20 years of independence. I love Algiers, Algiers, Algeria
  • In the afternoon, we will head to the oldest part of Algiers, the kasbah, where we will navigate through the windy streets and learn about the different histories from Arab and Amazigh, to Ottoman and French.
  • We’ll taste some street food and local delicacies as we go along.
  • In the evening, we will have free time for dinner where we can explore one of Algiers' many amazing restaurants and maybe even stop in a brasserie for a beer!

We’ll explore one of the tunnel systems under the Sidi M Cid bridge and walk on the base of the gorge, as well as the Mon.

  • The desert and its incredible rock formations seem to change every 10 kilometers, with different jagged mountain patterns emerging. We’ll see rocks balancing in ways that don’t seem natural, and a massive eroded rock archway.
  • If you’re up for a bit of a walk, we’ll take an optional stroll to an oasis used by nomads and their animals for thousands of years. Tassili n’Ajjer National Park, Djanet, Algeria
