TOUR OVERVIEW

We will begin in the modern capital of Islamabad where we will visit the super funky largest mosque in South Asia and see the more organised side to Pakistanā€™s beautiful chaos. We will use our time in the capital to get those important visas for the following Afghanistan trip and will also visit the surrounding countryside where we can dive into Pakistanā€™s ancient history, and small but existent alcohol production industry.

After Islamabad, we head north into some of the most spectacular mountains in the world located in Pakistanā€™s Hunza Valley. The scenery up here is incredible for you mountain lovers as youā€™ll be seeing peaks over 6-7000 metres above sea level all around you!

Next weā€™ll head south to the huge bustling chaotic city of Lahore, which feels like itā€™s in a different world to Islamabad. Here weā€™ll experience the Mogul history of Pakistan, visiting the Lahore Fort and the famous Badshahi Mosque, but youā€™ll also just get the chance to take in the vibe of this unique city. Your senses will be on high alert, with the intensity of the truck building yards, the street doctors, and the truly bizarre potions and notions on every corner.

From Lahore we will of course also visit the famous Wagah border ā€“ a true and functioning border crossing into India, which also happens to be the home of the absolutely unmissable spectacle thatā€™s put on every single day.

Itinerary

Islamabad
  • We begin the day by heading to the Afghan Embassy to sort out our visas for the second part of our journey. This is a great way to get your visa for those joining our Afghanistan October Autumn Tour ā€“ Islamabad is one of the quickest, easiest and cheapest places to get the Afghan visa. So what a great opportunity to get the visa and also see some of Pakistan whilst doing it!
  • Once the paperwork is all done we will head out for sightseeing in Islamabad.
  • Weā€™ll start with the Faisal Mosque which is the 5 th largest mosque in the world and the largest mosque in South Asia. More than that though, itā€™s also an incredibly funky and unusual design. Built in the 1970s with money donated by the Saudi royal family (hence being named after King Faisal of Saudi Arabia), itā€™s a Brutalist-type concrete structure, artistically representing a traditional Bedouin tent.
  • In the afternoon we will head to Ancient Taxila which lies about 25 kilometres north of the capital. This site showcases ruins that date back 3000 years and is one of the premier archaeological sites of Pakistan.
  • In the evening we will be back in Islamabad for dinner and free time.
  • Overnight in Islamabad.
